Family & Friends

A few days after Prague, Travers and I headed to San Francisco for a 10 day trip back home to see lots of family and friends.  Travers' family had also planned to come out to California during this timeframe, so we planned to visit with them and my parents the entire weekend.  Arriving on Friday mid-day, we settled in at my parents house in Los Altos and ran a few errands,  Travers' family arrived a few hours after us, so I dropped him off at their hotel to visit, while I finished up some errands and helped my mom prepare for a bbq that evening at home.  We had a fabulous family bbq with grilled steaks, ribs, and all sorts of tasty side dishes. And to top it all off, we had some apple pie! I wish I could say I made it from scratch, but Whole Foods does a pretty good job and I was jetlagged.

The next day, Travers and I went for a walk to downtown Los Altos, stopping by DeMartini's for some fresh strawberries to go with our Starbucks and Posh Bagel. We met up with T's family and just sat on Main Street, sipping our lattes and watching people stroll by...it was a very suburban Saturday morning, and much needed after being on the go all the time. Sometimes its just nice to sit back and relax.

Keeping Kelsea entertained at dinner
The rest of the day Travers went swimming with his niece,Kelsea, in the hotel pool, and I went shopping and had a late lunch with my parents at Stanford shopping center.  That evening, we took them all to Tacolicious in downtown Palo Alto.  We used to go to the one near our apartment in SF, so we decided what better way to spend Saturday night with the family than with some delicious tacos and margaritas!

The bag is as big as Kelsea!
We had a large Sunday brunch at my parents house the next morning.  Travers and I made our signature French Toast, with lots of bacon, syrup, strawberries, and powdered sugar!!  We also surprised Suzy, Travers' sister, with an early birthday surprise, a very coveted Bryna Bag!  The rest of the morning and early afternoon was spent saying our goodbyes to Travers' family as they headed home. And that evening, we had an early dinner with my parents at Fleming's Steakhouse before they dropped us off in the city at our hotel for the week.  It was a family-filled weekend with so much fun and laughter.

The rest of the week, Travers worked, while I visited with friends and went shopping at all my favorite stores.  We had dinner at a lot of our favorite restaurants, Umami for some sushi, Brindisi at Belden Place for some yummy Italian, Tonic for some yummy two-for-one Cucumber Crushes, and some of the best taco's in SF at Nick's Crispy Tacos.

And we topped it all off by trying something new on our last day in the city, the SOMA Streetfood Park.  Travers had read about it and thought it would be fun to check out, and Geneva seriously lacks creativity in food, so we figured this was our best chance to get some fun creative foods and enjoy a rare sunny day in the city.

Our final night was spent having dinner at Kiji, a Japanese restaurant in the mission area of SF with my family.  Then we spent the night at my parents house, and had a final brunch with my parents at the Palo Alto Country Club before they took us to the airport to fly back to Geneva.  As always, it was a fabulous visit back home, and a special treat to see Travers' family as they made the effort to come to the Bay Area.  We're not sure when we'll be back again, but I'm sure we won't let it go too long before craving some of our favorite restaurants and people again.
